  • The next thyroid ultrasound course is on 24th June 2008. The Registration Form is available to download.

  • The next Radioiodine training day is on 20th February, 2008. The Registration Form is available to download.

  • The second edition of the Guidelines for Thyroid Cancer Management has been published in August 2007 and is available to download. We are pleased to announce that the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons is now a cosignatory to this guideline.

  • The BTA executive has produced a Patient Information statement on Hyperthyroidism (July 2007).

  • Charity Status:
    I am pleased to inform you that the BTA has been successful in its application to become a registered charity (for details, please see the Charity Commission website, http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/registeredcharities/) Registered No: 1119631. It is hoped that the charity status will further enhance the reputation of the BTA, as well as strengthen its financial position.

  • HiLo Trial:
    A multicentre randomised trial of high versus low dose radioiodine, with or without rhTSH, for remnant ablation following surgery for differentiated thyroid cancer. An update regarding this trial is available.

  • The BTA executive committee have updated the Armour and combined T4/T3 statement.

  • MHRA warning: Traditional Chinese Medicine slimming tablets containing thyroxine The MHRA has received a report of a patient admitted to hospital suffering from thyroid problems after taking slimming tablets purchased from a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) outlet in Dudley. The product was found to contain significant amounts of thyroxine. After further investigation it appears that the tablets were old stock and are no longer on sale. Dieters are warned to be cautious when considering the use of such products as a slimming aid. The agency's previous alert on TCMs can be found here.
